Camp on My Old Stamping Ground Berkeley Va
Sept. 22 1862.
My Darling Wife—

I am quite well.  Were in Va again but only for a short time, we hope to be in Penna very soon.  The Yankees claim a glorious victory, by our recrossing the Potomac but it was necessary for a different reason.  The result will show.  Jno R. Cooke is all right his gallantry is commended very highly.  I have recd your welcome letter of Sept 8th 1862.  I send some needles by Brien.  He was at his home several days, but left his wife over there.  Direct your letters to Winchester Va.  Miss Summers is now at my bivouac.  Dr Hunter was wounded & he & his wife are now at Staunton.

Much love to all ours.  I will send you a draft in about ten days.  God bless you.
In haste
Yours—

P.S. Miss Minnie sends much love she is much like Maria.
