Camp Quien Sabe

May 28 1862.

Dearest Wife, --

I recd yours of the 25th to-day, and was delighted to hear how pleasantly you were fixed.  I had been very uneasy about Little Flora – bless her heart.  I think you might come down at any time for although the battle may come off to-day or tomorrow or any other day, still it might be some time.  I want you near me but it would be well to have a rockaway with which Bob could drive with you out of the way of immediate danger of attack – I think I could get such a one.  My Hd Qrs are at a charming place in the outskirts of Richmond.  Mr Fontaine’s.  The sweetest place I ever saw.  They say I must come right here if I should be wounded, which I shall certainly do.

A.P. Hill is a Major General and I have heard a dozen reports that I was one – but I have not received my commission.  I would like to get it before the battle, -- as it would give important command.  I am sanguine of Victory.  If you want me “come a runnin,” when you can [illegible] can see some one on the st to tell send me word by.  I pass through Richmond frequently.  Love to ours.  Roper’s wound is not very severe.

In haste love
