My Darling One –

I am still near Warrenton Junction and may be this side of the Rappahannock for a week yet.  I have written you several letters which I suppose you have not received, as I hear they do not allow letters to be delivered in Richmond from this army.  I suppose this restriction will be removed after a while.  You have however been kept informed about me as I have sent Johnston, Burke & Lt Henry to Richmond all of whom promised to go to see you, & tell you how I was.  I hope you will be able to come up to Culpeper very soon, but we will have to wait patiently the issue of military affairs.  The enemy will not advance this way, but will either land at Bell Plain (near Fredericksburg), Urbana, or come up York River simultaneously with a movement by Burnside upon Norfolk.  It is very clear that the enemy have almost entirely evacuated Manassas and Centreville.  I send this down by Lt Baxter who is waiting impatiently for it.  I must close.  It will be a long time before I can write you a Fort Wise letter, but that is the kind, my Darling, I wish you to continue to write to me.  I am very anxious to see those ambrotypes.  Love & kisses to Dearest Flora & Dearest Jimmy.  What a little rascal he must be.

Tell Pet to send me some Candy.  Many matters we’ll talk over when we meet.  In haste
Yours ever faithfully
J.E.B.Stuart
