My Darling Wife:

I have just recd yours of Aug 9th and send you $200.  Did you get the former amt sent you.

Try & bear your present trials bravely & as soon as they are over we will look out for other arrangements.

Dont give up to despondency.  I have written to you about Several matters, in a letter yesterday, & there is nothing new to record except that Mrs Major Hill has a fine boy & is doing well – his name is Edward Jr.

Dont forget my request about a certain matter—

I have every reason to believe Hood’s appt. is all bosh some malcontents are trying to get it up, but will not succeed.  Gen Lee knows nothing of it, & I believe entre nous he has recommended me already for the place.

Yours in haste
J.E.B.Stuart
