Dundee April 3 1863

My Darling One:

I went down to Richmond last night hoping to meet you there as I had heard from you that you were to be at Richmond by the end of March.  I was much disappointed at not meeting you, but I hope a fair wind will blow you to me yet.

I am here on that everlasting Ctmartial, and expect to return tomorrow to Fredericksburg – I have written frequently to you but I fear the same reason which has prevented the receipt of your letters, prevents mine reaching you.

I went to see Maria last night but she was not in.  I wish I could wander in those delightful gardens & gather flowers with you.  Many thanks for those you sent me.  I put on last night my new Jacket & have it on now it is beautiful and that wreath (bless your heart) is the prettiest one I have seen yet.  You certainly are a master of your needle.  Cousin Cornelia & Mrs Dr Price are extremely anxious to have you here & send much love.  Cousin Nannie too says you must stay at Dundee a long time.

Mrs Thos R. Price & his entire family were equally cordial in their invitations.  I am very anxious to see you again, and when you get to Richmond try and leave Jimmie & Mary with Maria & if you can get an escort run down & see me.

Capt B.S. White has a first rate svt girl 14 or 15 yrs of age he wishes you or Maria to take for what you think she is worth or nothing – so she gets a good home.  I told him I would write to you about it.  He says she is a first rate house svt.  I saw Mrs RELee, & Mrs Murdock last night [missing] one extreme [missing] praise of your wreath.  It is very beautiful -- & its being worked by my Darling is enough to make it dearly prized by me.  FitzHugh is Qr Mr.  Johnson continues as Comy, Channing Major & ADG Goldsborough succeeds him as Aid-de-Camp.  Tom Turner (St Louis) is anxious to see you to deliver some messages from his mother in St Louis.  He is now in Richmond & I hope will see you.  You know he is on Ewells staff.

Love to Ma – Your rapt Silk & other things are at Thos. R Price’s

Ever yours
